Frequently Asked Questions
How many candle dye chips should I use per pound of wax?
Dosage varies by wax type (reference waxes: IGI 4625 Paraffin | Blended Waxes 921 Soy):
• Paraffin wax: 1 chip per pound of wax
• Soy wax: 2 chips per pound of wax
• Other waxes (coconut, beeswax, blends): Start at 4 or more chips per pound. Shade varies by wax blend, so always test a small batch first.
Why does soy wax need more dye than paraffin wax?
Natural waxes like soy take color less intensely than paraffin. Across all Diamond Dye products, soy wax requires double (2x) the paraffin dosage.
How do I melt and use dye chips?
Melt your wax in a double boiler or wax melter until it reaches the recommended pouring temperature. Add dye chips and stir until chips are completely melted and all dye is dissolved. Pour into your mold or container and let cool.
When do I add fragrance oil?
Always wait until dye chips are completely melted and fully dissolved before stirring in fragrance oil.
Can I use candle dye chips in gel wax?
No. Dye chips are not recommended for gel wax.
